Anyone ever seen the Red Sound Systems Voyager Beat Xtractor? It reads an incoming audio signal, grabs the beat out of it, and sends MIDI Clock signals in tempo sync... Very cool, stupidly expensive, and now unavailable. I want to make a MIOS one, one of these days (after the sequencer, switching patchbay, synth etc... Don't hold your breath hehehehe)

I have a voyager! I love it completely, it's one of the coolest boxes I have ever seen. I was extremely sceptical about how well it would work (most beat counters out there are pure crap) but the voyager works well enough that you don't even have to think about it. It grabs the beat quick and lights up to know when it's locked. It will accurately generate clock on everything from a slow ballad to drum-n-bass. It's expensive because there is actually DSP in there, and what seems to be a huge amount of R&D behind their detection firmware. For those interested I use it on the lighting control the same way as the SMPTE box to generate time code, so the lighting changes only happen in perfect time with the music.

Anyway, think parametric eq-so you can pick the frequency of the beat you want to trigger on, AGC-so the level will be constant, then drive a 3915 with the selected signal and trigger into MIOS from your choice of the LED outputs via a transistor. It's the best way without diving into DSP, and it should keep things simple-easy to DIY.

Hello,

as you can see, I'm a newbie.

I'm building a midibox to control Native Instruments B4.
I'd like to use two pots as selector one for the tonewheel, the other for the cabinet.
I'd like to display differents labels instead of a value when I turn one of those pots .
For instance, display "B4 pure" instead of value 1, "B4 clean" instead of value 2, etc.
Changing the name of the pot is easy, but I didn't find anything about affecting a label to each pot value.

Any idea ?

One idea : Since it isn`t planned to put everything on one single
pcb,wouldn`t it be cool to divide the pcbs into "control-surface" and "base"-pcb,similar to the mb6582?

No real advantage to that IMHO. Different people design differently - I am from the school of thought that DINs belong on control surface PCBs. It drastically reduces the amount of interconnect between the boards.

I agree... don't use MB-6582 as a reference design, it is only by pure luck (and countless hours of rearranging tracks) that I was able to fit it onto two boards that would fit in a PT-10 case. If a control surface is not as compact as MB-6582 then it makes much more sense to put the DIN and DOUT modules on the same PCB as the control surface components.

Then again, I'm probably going to repeat the same mistakes and aim for a 14" wide MB-SEQ control surface PCB and probably have to put the DIN and DOUT on a second PCB. ;D

You handed a layout over to the profiteers (with pure intent though, not trying to be critical of that) but since your site reads more like a fork than a 'here is what I built using TKs plan', I would have to take action against you for infringement via your release of a derivative work before I have any solid legal ground for making eBay pull the auction.

I hope I'm not drudging up crap again, but as the MIDIbox SID-NUXX design runs stock MIOS / SID app (again, the only changes are to config options so that it'll compile and run on the particular PIC / control surface / EEPROM used), I'd think TK's IP would be wholly valid for pulling these (now multiple) auctions.

I didn't intend for the site to read like a fork, but a one-off "here's what I did, none of the rights to software and designs which mine is based on are mine". If you think it should be changed from its current reading to further reenforce this, I'll gladly do that.
